Deep River, Asheville’s Premier Country Vocal Group since 2007, has a new show for 2024 called, Country, Eagles, Ronstadt and Mac (as in Fleetwood) paying tribute to musical icons of the 1970’s and designed to take any audience on a memorable musical journey.
We occasionally perform our original songs like ‘Civil War’ which was played on Asheville’s KISS Country 99 FM, and ‘Silver Eagle’ which was rated Honorable Mention in Nashville’s Music Row magazine by country music historian, Robert K. Oermann.
Deep River is fronted by three female vocalists (Sandy Howard, Sharon Lewiswho also plays bass guitar and Nita Smith) and backed by some of Asheville’s finest musicians including lead guitarist Alec Fehl, acoustic guitarist Peter Millis and drummer Justin Watt.
During our 32-year career Deep River has sung with country music superstar/part-time Eagle Vince Gill, and opened for 2-time country Grammy winner Kathy Mattea, Grand Ole Opry star Mark Wills, Country Music HOF’r Charlie Louvin of The Louvin Brothers and the ‘First Lady of Bluegrass’, Wilma Lee Cooper.
Deep River’s musical influences include Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea, Pam Tillis, Trio aka Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton & Emmylou Harris, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Rhonda Vincent & The Rage, The Cox Family, Shenandoah, Restless Heart, Diamond Rio, Highway 101, Pure Prairie League, Poco, CSN&Y, The Beatles, the Eagles and Fleetwood Mac.
Over the years Deep River has performed at numerous venues around Asheville and WNC including White Horse Black Mountain, Highland Brewing, Ambrose West, The Grey Eagle, Isis Music Hall, The Grove Park Inn, The Altamont Theatre, and Summer Concert Series at Biltmore Lake, Banner Elk, Lake Toxaway and Pinebrook Farms to name a few, as well as numerous private events and benefits.
