Sports Coordinator

Summary

The Sports Coordinator is responsible for the development and programming of sports amenities offered across Highland’s forty-acre campus which currently include sand volleyball courts and a disc golf course.

While Hospitality Ambassadors are responsible for executing daily service, the Sports Coordinator is expected to understand and implement, when necessary, elements of Highland’s guest experience which may include duties comparable to a host, server, busser, bartender, or retail associate.

Full Time Hourly, Non-exempt. Eligible for bonus based on team revenue goal

Essential Job Functions

  • Proactively contribute to the growth and development of Highland’s guest experience by identifying and developing profitable, revenue generating sports activities that enhance brand building, community partnerships for Highland Brewing
  • Oversee implementation of a league programming and reservation platforms for volleyball, disc golf, and other sports activities
  • Coordinate with third-party sports leagues or other hosts, when needed, to reserve campus amenities in accordance with approved rental rates and service costs
  • Train Hospitality Staff on sports operating systems and/or service elements and maintain SOPs for best practices and expectations for staff scheduled to work them
  • Collaborate with the Taproom Manager to develop new sports programming
  • Collaborate with the Retail Assistant Manager to facilitate custom retail items specific to sports
  • Collaborate with the Event Assistant Manager to facilitate season opening events, member only events, tournaments, or other sports related events
  • Coordinate and oversee opening and closing of seasonal amenities and update shared calendars
  • Gather competitive data and perform market research for sports amenities as needed
  • Attend Hospitality lead team meeting when necessary
  • Show mastery in POS software and retail operating systems
  • Guide guests through Highland’s array of craft beer in accordance with brand standards
  • Anticipate guest needs proactively and conscientiously in a dynamic environment which may include beverage service, selling merchandise and packaged beer, moving seating arrangements, clearing and cleaning tables, serving guests at tables, and directing guests around campus
  • Perform campus tours for guests and vendors as necessary
  • Understand and adhere to North Carolina alcohol laws and permits specific to Highland
  • Maintain knowledge of the Highland brand story, beer styles, campus amenities, family history to educate and communicate our mission and vision to guests
  • Perform other duties as needed and assigned

 HOURS

This position is 30-40 hours, five days per week. Weekly schedule is dictated by sports programming. Public open hours vary but are daily and most holidays. Ability to work nights and weekends is required.

Qualifications

Education:

  • High school diploma required. Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management or Hospitality is preferred.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age in accordance with NC ABC laws

Experience:

  • One year of experience working in hospitality is required and experience in sports /athletic program development is preferred
  • Enthusiasm for craft beer and delivering an incredible guest experience is required
  • Experience working in hospitality under North Carolina COVID requirements preferred

  • Positive attitude with collaborative nature and ability to work with all types of people
  • Open minded and flexible with the ability to adapt quickly with new skills and procedures
  • Excellent time management and verbal/written communication skills a must
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications including Teams

 

Working Conditions:

As this position is working in a brewery, the physical demands of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Bending, twisting, reaching overhead, lifting up to 30lbs frequently & up to 50lbs occasionally
  • Working with cleaning chemicals
  • Working in both indoor and outdoor service areas with inclement weather at times
