Highland Brewing’s Disc Golf Course Named #3 Best Brewery Course in the US and Canada

Feels

Highland Brewing Company’s disc golf course in East Asheville, North Carolina has been ranked the #3 best disc golf course at a brewery in the United States and Canada, according to UDisc’s 2026 list of the 25 Best Disc Golf Courses at Breweries. The ranking is based on more than 6.5 million course ratings from over 1 million disc golfers worldwide, placing Highland’s course among the top brewery-based courses on the continent — and the highest-ranked brewery course in North Carolina.

UDisc summed up the course’s appeal this way: with a mantra of “Play hard, drink well,” Highland’s 18-hole layout anchors a 40-acre recreation facility that also includes five sand volleyball courts and hosts a steady rotation of local clubs and community groups throughout the week.

A Free 18-Hole Course for Every Skill Level

Located directly on the Highland Brewing Company property in East Asheville, the course is currently free to play and open to players of all ages — no tee times, no green fees, no membership required. That accessibility is a big part of why it’s become the busiest disc golf course in Western North Carolina, drawing an estimated 70,000 to 100,000 rounds played per year from more than 25,000 unique players.

The course’s reach extends well beyond Asheville. Over the past year, players from 45 U.S. states have teed off on Highland’s fairways, making it a genuine destination stop for traveling disc golfers, not just a local favorite.

Course Layout: Front 9 vs. Back 9

Highland’s design gives players real choice, with most holes offering multiple tee pads and multiple basket options:

Front 9 — Beginner- and intermediate-friendly, with technical lines and slight elevation changes. Every hole on the front 9 has a Red basket, making it approachable for newer players and families.

Back 9 — Built for intermediate and advanced players, with significant elevation change, massive trees, water hazards, technical fairways, tougher par 4s, and longer holes. Every hole on the back 9 has a Blue basket. Carts are tougher to maneuver back here, so be ready to walk.

Before you head out, warm up in the wooded practice area, which has four practice putting baskets for dialing in your short game.

Built Around the Beer

The course’s layout isn’t an afterthought when it comes to Highland’s beer — it’s baked into the design. Guests are encouraged to grab a pint from the Taproom or the Meadow bar before teeing off, and the course is intentionally routed to bring players back past the Meadow bar at the turn, right between the front 9 and back 9. That means a natural stopping point to refill before tackling the more challenging back nine, or to wrap up and relax after finishing the front.

Highland Brewing beer and food trucks are on-site during Taproom hours, so a round here can easily turn into a full afternoon.

Course Design

Highland’s course was designed by Disc Golf Design Group, LLC, whose layout work is a big part of why the course earns praise from both casual players and experienced competitors — it’s technical enough to challenge advanced throwers on the back 9, while staying genuinely welcoming to beginners on the front.

Where Highland Ranks Nationally

UDisc’s brewery rankings span 13 U.S. states and 2 Canadian provinces, and Highland landed at #3 overall — behind only Norbrook Farm in Colebrook, Connecticut, and Sprinkle Valley Disc Golf Course at Austin Beerworks in Austin, Texas. It’s the top-ranked brewery course in North Carolina, ahead of other notable NC entries like ZincHouse DGC in Durham, Trinity at Good Hops in Carolina Beach, and Pluck Farm DGC at Steel String Brewery in Mebane.
