Cold Mountain Release
30 Years of Cold Mountain
Thirty years ago, we brewed the first batch of Cold Mountain Winter Ale. At the time, Oscar had no idea it would become a meaningful tradition for so many.
Since 1996, Cold Mountain has grown from a small seasonal release into the kickoff to the holiday season. The beer itself changes a little every year, shaped by each brewer who puts their mark on it, and our team’s creativity shines through experimental exclusives like Chocolate Hazelnut Cold Mountain, Crushable Cold Mountain and Pumpkin Spice Latte Cold Mountain, to name a few.
The event has evolved right alongside the brew, growing into Highland’s biggest weekend of the year. Live music has always been a big part of Cold Mountain, now joined by pop-up bars, kids’ activities and a competitive volleyball tournament. Seven years ago, we added the Cold Mountain Beer Dinner, partnering with incredible local chefs to build a tradition all its own.
Through all of it, one thing has stayed exactly the same: the feeling. That first pour, that first cold night, that sense that the holidays have officially started. It’s the same feeling we had thirty years ago, and it’s the reason we keep going.
Thank you for thirty years of showing up, pouring in and making this yours. Thank you for serving Cold Mountain at the holidays and for drinking it around the fire on crisp winter nights. The holidays start with Cold Mountain. Here’s to thirty more.
