Dr. Bacon is a party band blending incredibly diverse instrumentation with equally diverse musical genres. Dr. Bacon features acoustic, electric and resonator guitars, harmonica, bass, saxophone, trombone, percussion, vocal harmonies and more. This instrumentation allows the band to play everything from bluegrass standards and originals to classic 90’s hits, drunken shanties and raucous party tunes to beautifully intricate ballads and instrumentals. The Dr. Bacon live experience is truly a musical spectacle. Bringing the audience on a musical journey that lulls and spikes in energy, caressing ears with lush musical beauty and whipping crowds into a tribal down-home romp, often within the same song. The sheer diversity ensures that no matter what genre of music you identify with most, you will hear something that resonates.

Dr. Bacon started as a four piece featuring two acoustic guitars, banjo, and a mandolin in the summer of 2012. This small ensemble gradually grew and evolved, incorporating harmonica, electric guitar, saxophones, electric bass, trombone, and finally drums as the band grew into more diverse and ambitious music. Dr. Bacon plays relentlessly, bringing their infectious party music to venues like The Whisky in Wilmington, The Blind Tiger in Greensboro, The Pour House in Raleigh as well as music festivals across the region like Camp Barefoot, Shakori Hills, Mantrabash, The Big What and many more. The Bacon boys have also worked with a multitude of other musicians and bands including Melissa Reaves, Coddle Creek, The Hornitz, The Travers Brothership, Brushfire Stankgrass, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Megan Jean and the KFB, the Southern Belles and the Mantras.
