Today, we proudly celebrate Oscar Wong Day—established by the Asheville Chamber of Commerce and county commissioners after our beloved founder received the Order of the Long Leaf Pine on May 3, 2023, the highest civilian honor granted by the governor of North Carolina.

May 16th now stands as a tribute to Oscar’s lasting impact on our community, recognizing the vision and leadership he brought to Asheville when he founded Highland in 1994. His legacy is also honored with a plaque outside Barley’s Taproom in downtown Asheville, marking the very place where Highland first began.

As we celebrate this special day, we invite everyone to join us at the brewery to raise a glass to Oscar and all he has built. We’ll be offering a festive “Oscar Flight,” specialty cocktails, and delicious Jamaican offerings from Charley King’s Jamaican (11am-7pm). Please join us in celebrating Oscar’s legacy with what he enjoyed most – great beer and great food.
