Highland Links to the Community

Our staff has been led by the example of our founder, Oscar Wong. A career-long Rotarian and volunteer/officer in a number of charitable organizations, he has always given back. We do the same as a company, with the help of our beer-friendly customers! We are proud to partner with the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy (SAHC), RiverLink's Adopt-a-Stream program, and Manna Food Bank, and we offer support to countless other organizations in our tasting room and outside the brewery with donations.

Based on who we are at our core, we plan our giving in four focus areas: Health & Wellness, People In Need, Natural & Cultural Resources, and Animal Welfare.

You can be part of our biggest fundraising efforts!

  • Seasonal beer release parties - where $1 per beer is donated to SAHC. Dates vary. Check out our Calendar.
  • Night Flight - our annual evening race and after party (for runners and non-runners), supporting local greenway development. 1st or 2nd Saturday in July.
  • Monthly Community Partners - a different non-profit every month featured in our tours and in our tasting room. One night of the month is Community Night where the organization can show what they do with a presence in our tasting room. $1 per beer is donated.

For Love of Beer & Mountains - Come Hike with Us!

We team up with the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy in a partnership aimed at raising awareness of the rare and important ecology of the Southern Appalachian Mountains. These mountains draw people to Asheville from all over the world to study their history, admire their physical beauty, and enjoy their natural resources. To retain the quality of life we enjoy at work and at play, we must protect them. Learn more about where we live by joining us on a naturalist-guided seasonal hike, or by visiting the brewery for an fundraising educational event, created in conjunction with each seasonal beer release. You can also visit Beer & Mountains.com for additional information on the partnership.

River Clean Up

Clean water is an essential ingredient in brewing excellent beer. For this reason, Highland staff spends several days a year contributing to the local Adopt-a-Stream program. We have pulled several truckloads of trash and debris from a 3/4 mile section of the Swannanoa River, which we adopted in the fall of 2009. If you are interested in adopting your own section of river in the Asheville area, contact River Link.

Feeding the Community

When you tour our world-class, regional brewery, please consider a canned food donation to Manna Food Bank. Manna is right down the road from the brewery, where Oscar and his daughter Nicole volunteer.
